Education Giant BYJU'S Enlists HR Guru Amidst Turmoil – Can This Move Save the Company?

BYJU'S, an education technology startup, has recruited seasoned HR executive Richard Lobo as an exclusive adviser to assist the business restructure its human resources operation.

Lobo will actively advise BYJU's management on organizational reform and transformation in order to create a 'great environment' for its workers, according to a statement from the firm.

The hiring comes as the corporation faces rising issues, including a severe financing shortage and significant governance concerns highlighted by stakeholders and a former auditor. Concurrently, recent employee complaints of alleged maltreatment and layoff threats have exacerbated the situation. In the previous year, the firm has implemented repeated rounds of personnel reductions and recently departed some of its office buildings in an attempt to slash expenses, even as a much-needed lifeline of new cash remained elusive.

"We extend our heartfelt welcome to Richard Lobo as he becomes a member of the Byju family." His extensive experience and leadership in HR will be instrumental in further enriching our work culture and ensuring that the welfare of our team members remains at the core of every decision we make," BYJU'S co-founders Byju Raveendran and Divya Gokulnath said in a joint statement.

Lobo joins BYJU'S after a 23-year career at Infosys, where he held numerous leadership responsibilities, culminating in his most recent post as EVP and Head of Human Resources. He joined the business in 2000 and was the Head of Human Resources from 2015 to 2023.

"I'm excited to take on this pivotal role and collaborate closely with the BYJU'S team to build on their accomplishments and help transform the organization to be future ready." "I am excited to work with the leadership to scale global organizational design, innovate people practices, and help strengthen the enterprise's foundation to support its next phase of growth as a global market leader," Lobo stated.
